It is that time of year when us accountants start to look at the mountain of personal tax returns that need to be submitted before 31st January 2018. We appreciate that this might seem a long time away for you but we need to submit about 25 a week to make sure that everyone gets their tax return in in time and to ensure that we get some sleep in January!

So what are the advantages to getting your tax return in early?

• If you are due a repayment then you get it faster instead of providing an interest free loan to the government.
• If you are in a tax paying position then you get longer to save up for your tax bill as a lot of people are going to have a tax bill for the first time in January 2018 with the introduction of tax on dividends.
• You get to be unbearably smug over the Christmas holidays as you will have done your tax return when everyone else is searching for their P60 or interest certificate…..

On top of all that you will take the pressure of us poor accountants over the Christmas holidays. So pass on a little happiness and get your tax return information to us as soon as possible. It is a winner for everyone!
